What a great site! I got here while looking around for
sites about the Doughboy monument in Hobart. I am
a "Doughboy Searcher." Have been to about 35 (in about 12
states) of the Viquesney Doughboys identical to Hobart's
and have photos of about 75 taken by me or specifically
for me by others. Have been to Viquesney's grave in
Spencer, Indiana and to several Doughboys in Indiana, but
not Hobart's. Will get there at some point. Grew up in
Henryetta, Oklahoma where one of those linked to your sight
is located. Henryetta's teams aren't "Brickies" - but they
are another HHS - and Troy Aikman played his high school
ball there. Have also been to another one linked to your
site - Axtell, Kansas. Are you aware there is one in
another "Hobart"? It's in Oklahoma, and is beside a
companion "Spirit of The American Navy" sculpture, also by
Viquesney (he made just seven of those - one is in Fort
Wayne). Your site is great and Hobart looks like a great
place.

Cindy lived on Lake Street in Hobart and is now married and
lives in Wales. She and her husband run the Blackhorse Inn

her there. This page has very special memories for her.
Thanks and anyone that wants to contact me just email at

RIP to Coach Deal. He was a major influence in my life, as
I am sure he was in the lives of thousands of Hobart kids.
The impact of his cleats on my behind pushed me in the
right direction in life. Todays kids could use some of his
style of motovation.

Your website is just fabulous; I grew up in Merrillville,

valpo, so we travelled through Hobart often. I had many
friends there. Your depiction of this beautiful town
brings back a lot of wonderful memories.

family members I have in the Hobart, Demotte, or Hammond
areas. My grandmother lived in the Hobart area at the time

grandmothers name was Lillian A. Schultz, her maiden name
was Blanchard. Some other family members names are Bonnie

Thank you so much for providing the images (and, yes, the
superlative audio!) of my home town where I lived for 25
years! I had not known about the town's history in detail
until I had visited your site. Your efforts in providing
such details is commendable. I always look forward to
visiting my Mother, a resident of Hobart for more than 60
years and seeing that such a wonderful community still
exists--not just in my memory but in it's present-day
existence. Hobart is a wonderful town with its residents
cherishing not only old-time values, but always looking
forward to the future of increasing their committment to
its promise for a life of peaceful well-being.
Your site with easy-to-use links expresses our mutual love
of "OUR TOWN!"
Thank you so much for your efforts in providing a source of
nostalgia and the optimistic forward look as to how
American communities have always meant to be!

This is a very nice site. I enjoyed it. I was looking for
info on Hobart. I am doing some genealogy research and am
stuck on my husband's grandmother. Her name was Anna
Katherine Anderson and married John Nordstrom in Chicago 14

That is all we know. Do you know any Anderson's in Hobart?

Hello;
I like your page. I do mostly Genealogy and have a few pages
out there, mostly on the freebie sites such as Angelfire.
Perhaps you can help me. I am trying to get in Contact with
a Greg Breitzke who was in the 169th Engineers in Viet Nam
during 1970. Bill Carter who was also in the 169th gave me
the following info. I could find nothing with my telephone
searches. We are putting together a roster of the surviving
members of the 169th.
Bob Stevens in Wisconsin.
There is another guy from B co in Hobart,In. He seemed to
have all the
details of the accident at the time. He is a detective with
the Hobart
Police Dpt.
The guy in Hobart is named Greg Breitzke. He was a 10 ton
driver also.

Thanks for a great tour of Hobart. I was born there in
1932. My family left Indiana in August of 1945, But my
grandparents, Frank and Bertha Ferren, lived there until
their deaths in the late '50s. Elinor Carlson was their
daughter. My uncle, Glenn Wall owned Glenn's Toggery on
the main street. We now live in New Braunfels, Texas,
where there is another one of your Doughboy monuments in
the city square. It is a constant reminder of Hobart. I
saw my first professional football team scrimmage in
Brickie Bowl. It was the Chicago Bears with Johnny Lujack
at quarterback. Hobart was a wonderful place to live.

Howdy! I saw Jackie's notes on my site and wanted to drop
by. I actually saw your site when I was researching ours.
Too funny that Jackie is from WA. In fact we are originally
from PA but moved out here to Seattle area in 97. Aside
from the occasional riots and earthquakes it hasn't been
too bad! :) I've already got you book marked so I'll be
dropping by often. I had to move our site as the server
company was being sued by Intel. So I revamped a bit. I try
to every few days. Take care. Frank

An excellent place to find information on Hobart is at the Hobart Historical Museum. 4th and East Street across from the Middle School. Open Saturdays 10am to 3pm. Past HHS Yearbooks are a good source for pictures since the Building in question was used for a gym prior to the building of Roosevelt Gym. Good luck, ZETA
