Thanks for creating such a nice tribute to "our little city"! I grew up in a wonderful little neighborhood on Lake George and next to Fred Rose Park. What a great place to be a kid! I graduated from Hobart High School in 1986. Hobart, IN will always feel like home to me! Bill Neuenfeld <wen.mail@verizon.net> Hobart, IN - Sunday, June 02, 2002 at 14:38:14 (EDT) I am 80 years old and lived in Hobart during the depression from 1929 to 1933. I lived on Water Street. My dad had a grocery store, Joe's Market, on Main Street between 3rd and the police station. I have great memories of Hobart, all of the parades down Main Street, swimming in Lake George and Rhodes Beach, hanging with the kids in the neighborhood- -the Keilmans, the Roper boy, the Millers, the Rippes, the Springmans, I could go on and on and tell you lots of stories. Thanks for a great website. Thanks for the memories!!!! Jo Guzzo Josephine Guzzo <edavis3866@yahoo.com> San Diego, CA - Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 17:10:42 (EDT) HI! The pictures that you are speaking of are not on our site, therefore not in our control to change them. Great observation however, we never noticed it! Thanks again! Frank and Jackie <frankco@frankandjackie.com> - Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 18:21:21 (EDT) This is a great site! I have posted her before - about 10 months ago about your Doughboy - and I see that you have replaced the former Doughboy picture with two of the renovated version. There is a minor item I will point out to you in case you can, or choose, to do something to correct it. You have a link to the Doughboy in Crisfield, Maryland - both the old and the renovated versions. Both pictures are mirror images - the left hand is up, rather than the right hand. I know you obtained these from another site where they are reversed, but just thought I would mention it in case you want to reverse them again to get the correct views.Great site. I graduated in 1965 and moved to Florida in 1972, I really miss the quiet little town it was and think about my old friends Niki and Anita and the rest of you often. Would love to get back someday and see the changes, Lake George looks terrific. Wondering if something is wrong with the "tour site" can't get it to show me the pictures anymore or the the history of the brickyard. Has anyone else had the same problems? I'll try again later. Connie (Johnson) Eastwood <onedrifty@cs.com> Fort Myers, Florida/Lee - Thursday, April 11, 2002 at 22:51:15 (EDT) In a dream, beyond reason, I held you in my arms. It was the season of feeling. So, found ouselves in Hobart quite a bit...roller skating, etc. But I had totally forgotten about Lake George!! Attended "church picnics" there as a child & teenager. Was so good to catch up on the progress there. Still visit Portage from time to time, as I have a sister who still lives there, as well as a few good friends that I graduated with, that I still keep in touch with. Can add Lake George toy places to re-visit. Have fond memories of the Hobart & Glen Park "that was" back then. Thanks for jogging my memory & for the trip down memory lane. Great site. Found it quite by accident! USA - Sunday, December 09, 2001 at 00:17:27 (EST) Great Website! I was born in 1962 in Hobart. I lived on Kelly St. until I moved in 1976. I have never been back...except in memory. What a great place to have grown up. We (my family) still talk about "The Art", "Luigi's Pizza", "Dairy Queen", the whole Downtown Area & walking up to "Save More" and "Green Acres" for a round of mini-golf and a 14 cent hamburger. The movie "A Christmas Story" and "The Sandlot" bring back those memories of growing up. Some of my Best Friends were Jeff Auxier, Rick Adams, Allen Wronko, George Skomp, Steve & Greg O'Keefe, Mark Greenberg, Brent Burris & David Axtell. Anyone know these guys? I saw a message from Jeff Eck...is this the same Jeff Eck I played with on the Optimists Club Little League team. The kid I called, "Peanut" and carried on my shoulders? That was back when my Dad had the "Burger Castle". That was an innocent time. GO BRICKIES!!! Barbara <lites0n7@aol.com> Hobart, IN USA - Tuesday, October 02, 2001 at 19:51:16 (CDT) Hi: This may seem strange, but I looked you up because I found a "Hobart Brickie" T-shirt at a local thrift store, and found myself wondering just who the Hobart Brickies are. In fact, there are a number of Hobart shirts at the store. I guess we have a former Hobart resident living in Madison. You have a very entertaining and informative website. Thanks. One question: The initials H.F.B.C. are on the shirt below the picture of the muscular bricklayer. My guess after looking at your website is that it stands for "Hobart Football Booster Club." Close? Good luck to the Brickies this year. Steve Schumacher <schu1@home.com> Madison, WI - Friday, September 28, 2001 at 09:44:33 (CDT) Great site, great city. I was born in Gary and grew up in Hobart from 1949 to 1965 (graduated HS 1964). I had the opportunity to visit Hobart not long after the new river walk was completed--gorgeous! Congratulations to all of you who love the city and have worked to keep it up all these years. I've had a great time at this site, remembering winter ice-skating on Lake George, the wild and scary rumors about the clay pit (according to the legend in my era, most folks who dared to go in never came out), horse-back riding and hayrides on the Bracken farm ... this is great! And Coach Deal had a pretty big influence on the female population at school, too--he had a way of threatening us all with those cleats... A great guy, excellent influence on the students, and probably a very healthy thorn in the side of the administration. He'll be missed.
