After my old computer drifted off to cyber heaven, I lost my info on this website. So nice to find it again. Glad to read your post Margaret Keilman Stewart. I lost the emails we had about the E&K Grill where I worked while I was in high school in the mid-50s. Good to find you again. And, to Terry Kegebein, I am a sister to Terry and Ernie Malmquist, my ornery (kidding) little brothers. John and his siblings are my cousins. Terry, are you related to Larry Kegebein? I think we went to the same grade school. Love our home town.

My family moved from Hobart to Phoenix, AZ in 1957;I was in 5th grade. My parents owned E&K Grill and Hobart Cab. I will always miss my adventure-filled childhood in Hobart, and wonder what happened to my friends, Jill St. Germain and Wava Voight. It was a carefree time to be a kid. I still remember that distinctive old wood smell of the library (pre Historical Society days).

Frank and Jackie
I love reading remarks in your pages. What happen to the trip back in Time with main street and the OLD Lutheran church in background? I hope you bring it back in your links.
Jackie and Frank:
I have no idea what you are talking about. If it is something missing on someone elses website, we have no control over that. But I do not see any missing links within our site, so unless you can point out something specific, I don't know what you mean.

I signed this book back in Dec. 2001, glad to see it's still here. Haven't been back to Hobart since 1978, looks like it's changed a bit. Sorry to see Abbott's had to remove their sign, spend a lot of time eating lunch there while in school. Wish Google would have 'street views' of the old neighborhood I lived in, called 'Hollywood', over by the old dust bowl. Take care, JIM

I should have mentioned the names of the books. The first is named Growing Up In Hobart - The Class of 1965.
The second is: Hobart - As It Began and As We Knew It - The Class of 1965
The sales of these books does serve a good cause, to assist, in some small way, the very tight budget of the Hobart Historical Society. They are located in the old library building on 4th St. and are open only on Saturdays from 10 AM until noon. They will also take orders by mail.

Really have enjoyed the site!
During 2009 and 2010 I, along with my classmates' input, put together two books covering our 'baby boomer' era of growing up in Hobart. They are very comprehensive and touch on nearly every aspect of the Hobart area, and life in general, during those times. The beginning of the second book covers the very early history of the Hobart area and continues with our our era.
I did these books non-profit and once completed the books and the rights to the books, sales and reprints were donated to the Hobart Historical Society. They are only available through them. I began them after visiting the public library and the Historical Society and finding that all available material ended with my parents generation (pre WWII). I didn't want to see the history of our era in Hobart lost.

Beware the Hobart street department! They will break your mailbox post with the trees they are cutting and then refuse to fix it because it was rusty. Yes, it was rusty but it was still standing strong and could have stayed that way for years. They also dented the mailbox, which they did offer to fix but who cares about the dented mailbox? We didn't even want a NEW mailbox post, we just wanted the one we have reinforced so it won't blow over in the next mild wind.
After mentioning that it could have lasted several more years the way it was, they actually argued that it was our fault for having trees!
We love Hobart, everyone knows that. But come on, if you are going to break people's property, you need to take responsibility and fix it.
